Club News
John Wray
It is with enormous regret that I inform you that one of the cricket club's much loved vice presidents, John Wray, passed away peacefully last night.

John had been ill for some time

John had been an excellent cricketer playing for many years as a wicketkeeper in the Chelmsford area where he ran a small holding before buying the farm at Whepstead

John was the club's most loyal supporter and attended almost all our home games, up until a couple of seasons ago he also travelled to most of the team's away matches. He was also a very loyal and generous benifactor

John watched and enjoyed the epic and memorable last game of the season in which Brockley defeated East Bergholt. He stayed till the last ball was bowled!

The club will miss John very much and the Reeds' have very happy memories of the interest and kindness he showed our family.

At this time I have no details of any funeral arrangements

Fantasy Cricket Results
I would like to express my thanks, on behalf of Brockley Cricket Club, to everyone that entered the Fantasy Cricket League this year.

As a lot of the prizes were donated, the club has made £295 profit as a result of your entries.

Hopefully everybody enjoyed the league and I am open to suggestions as to ways to improve it for next year !

The overall winners were as follows:

First Place: Dean Sykes with 4990 points
Second Place: Isaac Reed with 4892 points (I promise this was not a fix!)
Third Place: Peter McGowan with 4798.75 points

The monthly winner for September was Mark Boreham with 1533.5 points.

The leading player prize goes to Stu Fisher with 901 points !

The leading junior player prize was not won, as there were no junior entries.

Well done to everybody that won a prize this year, and thanks again to everybody that made the competition such a success !

To find out where you finished, please visit our website at http://www.brockleycc.com and click on "Fantasy Cricket".

Prizes will be awarded at the quiz night in October.

Many thanks again,

Isaac Reed
(Brockley Cricket Club Sponsorship Secretary)
PLAYERS NEEDED FOR SATURDAY !
Regretfully, Brockley Second Team have conceeded their last three matches, incurring hefty fines. If we conceed another, we risk being expelled from the league. Therefore, it is important that every effort is made to field a team this Saturday (at home to Easton). If you are able to play, please contact Tom Fenner on 07984 767091.
Fantasy Cricket - More County Tickets up for grabs in July and August
Due to an oversight on my part, the monthly Fantasy Cricket winner for September will unfortunately not win a set of County Cricket tickets. This is due to the County season finishing in early September. The September winner will still win a bottle of wine.

This means that we still have five sets of tickets remaining. Therefore, the club will be giving away three sets of tickets to the top three placed managers in July, and two sets of tickets to the top two placed managers in August. If the winners do not want the tickets, then they will be offered to the next highest ranked manager for that month.

In a weather affected week, P. Mingay and B. Jeffrey are joint weekly winners !
Weekend Washout
All three fixtures from the weekend were cancelled or abandoned. The only play came on Sunday, when Brockley Sunday XI, sponsored by New Life TV, reduced top of the table Walsham Le Willows to 27-2 from 12 overs (D. Sykes 1-5 and I.Reed 1-10) in a reduced 30 overs a side match, before the heavens opened and the game was abandoned.
Fantasy Cricket
This week's fantasy cricket tables will be completed when Lakenheath get round to submitting the scorecard. Last month's winner was Mark Blackledge who chose the Lords tickets and bottle of Rioja Tinto as his prize. It is all to play for again in June...
Stefanie Tops the Fantasy League thanks to her Daddy
Stefanie Dean tops the league after week one and wins a can of Red Bull Sugar Free courtesy of All Out Cricket, and a £3 bar voucher. A spectacular caught and bowled by her dad gave her the edge over me and third placed Paddy. Ben Jeffrey has already sacked himself as captain after scoring an impressive minus 40 points. I picked up a few points for my five wickets, so anybody that had me as captain had a good week.

Youth Cricket 2011 Season
Dear All

The cricket season is now here. We look forward to seeing all the youth each Friday from 29th April onwards. 6pm start. See the attached poster.

It will be a great season. Stu Fisher is back to look after the youth (now he has completed his studies).

Players of all abilities welcome. We have Suffolk county players through to those who just want to have fun.
Some changes from last season:

(1) We now have the full run of the whole playing area so the boys and girls can “practice” in the middle as well as the nets.

(2) We have more volunteers to help at the training sessions (anyone else who wants to help please let Stu or me know – the more the better).

(3) The training sessions will be more structured.

(4) There will be 3 age groups (U11, U13 & U15) and all will play competitive cricket in well established competitions:

a. U11's: Borders league and cup and West Suffolk cup
b. U13's: West Suffolk cup
c. U15's: West Suffolk league and cup

(5) The club also has many senior teams which play on the weekends where we hope a lot of the youngsters will end up playing their cricket (for some it might just be before they play for their country). To help with the transition to senior cricket we have added a development team into a mid week (Wednesday night) adult 20/20 competition (all played locally). The team will comprise of a core of very talented 1st team players (like Stu Fisher, Dean Sykes, Simon Byford etc) and not so talented senior players (like me) along with selected promising young players (at least half the team).
Some things which remain as before:

(1) The bar will be open for those mums and dads who want a quiet glass of beer (or sherry) and a nibble in an idyllic location. Thank you to those who help out here. It is greatly appreciated.

(2) We follow strict ECB guidelines when dealing with youth. Things like ensuring we have some fully trained coaches (level 1 or higher), holding valid CRB certificates and recently attended a good practice child protection course along with recent 1st aid training.

We do hope you come along. Please send this email to anyone else who you think would like to join. Please put up our poster in the schools, village halls etc. Everyone is welcome. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with Stu or myself.

Take care
Peter

12 Bottles of Wine Up for Grabs
We have just added 12 bottles of wine (RRP between £7.49 and £9.99) as prizes in our Fantasy Cricket League. The league starts in less than three weeks time - on April 23. Make sure you have registered a team by then to avoid disappointment and start scoring points from the start. You will be raising much needed funds for the club in the process.
